Dog Days of Summer

I can't believe that the summer is approaching its end so quickly.  Is it just me or when we were younger we had more of the "Dog Days of Summer" where now we have the "Quick Days of Summer?

Though summer is not over and we approach the fall season, I am actually excited about its arrival for a few reasons.   First, I have to admit that I rather enjoy the cooler season and the changing colors of the landscapes.   Secondly, who's car or motorcycle doesn't run better with the crisp cool air?

I rather enjoy hitting the two lane black top with the windows down in the '55, hearing the hum of the big block and all the while looking out at the changing colors of the trees.  The crisp cool air and the crisp notes of the exhaust seem to come together in harmony and makes me think of the famous Bob Seger song, "Roll Me Away".

Interesting how that works

This morning I made my usual stop into Dunkin Donuts for my coffee; yes, only a coffee.  The drive through was exceptionally longer than usual and I decided I would take a walk inside to order my coffee.  Now I don't like to do this only because then you are forced to take in the smells of the freshly made round delights.   So I had to hurry to fight the urge to order something more than just my morning coffee!

As I am placing my order for the coffee a man decided he can walk directly to the counter and stand beside me and grab the clerks attention by saying, "Hey, I forgot to order my coffee with my donut".   I look over to him with a look of wonder while the clerk apologizes to HIM and proceeds to get his coffee order and quickly get on his way.  I have to say something... " I think you just cut in front of me on line."  The man looks at me with bewilderment and states, " I was here but forgot to order my coffee".

I didn't even know what to say to him without becoming angry so the words... "Interesting how that works" came out.   So I guess the lesson is, as long as you were previously in line for something and you made a purchase you can return and avoid the wait as long as it is within a reasonable amount of time!

Out Crusing

This past Saturday I rolled out of Geneva, Il. to meet up with the Car Club to hit a car show in Milwaukee Wisconsin.  It was definitely a hot one, temps hit the upper 90's but being on the highway rolling about 70 mph it helped to keep things cool.

We had a nice line a cars rolling down the highway and just the rumble of the Big Block made the world seem a better place.  It is a calming feeling seeing you friends in their Rods in your rear view and through your front windshield.  Sometimes, ya just wish you could go back in time to when cruising was a past time.

My advice to you... get out! Cruise the roads, find the small Mom and Pop stores and diners.  Experience the [no] hustle or bustle and take a two lane black top...

Driving...

Is it just me or does it seem peoples driving habits have become worse or insensitive to others.  I noticed more and more people turning left very short and coming into the opposing traffics lane.  Not turning wide enough to stay in the proper lane.  Then to add to that, the offender will give you a dirty look as if you were in their way!

Then there is also my biggest pet peeve of them all.  The slow driver on the expressway that lingers in the left lane!  First, lets make clear I do understand the the speed limit in my area is 55 mph.  However, the farthest left lane is used for passing slower traffic even if they are doing the speed limit.  Just simply move over especially when you see someone behind you.  And you also do not need to give that driver a dirty look when they want to pass you!
